Beach Bag Beauty

beachbagbeauty2014Let’s be honest: the whole beach-to-cocktails idea is pretty ridiculous. There is no way to go from being on the beach all day to looking glam {and clean} for dinner or shoreside cocktails without rinsing off or taking a little time to clean up. I don’t know where this idea came from, but it just doesn’t happen!

That being said, there are ways to transition from the beach without being slicked with sunscreen and still having sand in your hair. Have fun frolicking in the sand and surf, and then polish yourself up for a night out. Here are some tricks, and the products you’ll need to stow in your beach bag.

1 & 2. No beach bag would be complete without sunscreen and lip balm. I like Sun Bum SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion ($16) to protect my skin (it smells amazing!) and COOLA LipLux ($12) to shield my lips from damaging rays.

3. A post-beach shower is necessary. All you need is a quick rinse-off to wash away sand, sunscreen, and other products. If you don’t want to/can’t wash your hair, spritz it with John Masters Organics Sea Mist Sea Salt Spray With Lavender ($16). I can’t tell you how much I’m loving this spray. It makes your hair piecey and textured while bringing out a natural wave. If you’ve already been at the beach all day, a few spritzes of this on your tresses is the finishing touch.

4. A 7-pack of Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes ($1.34) is handy for whisking away product residue–and they won’t weight down your beach bag. It creates a clean slate for {minimal} makeup application.

5. Laura Mercier Undercover Pot ($34) is a great multitasking concealer. It contains both Secret Camouflage (Mercier’s signature blemish/scar/spot concealer) and Secret Concealer (for under eyes). It also has Translucent Loose Setting Powder to set your makeup. It’s a travel-friendly product that covers all the concealing bases.

6. After a day at the beach, a BB cream is all you need to even out skin tone and provide hydration. Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Illuminating Moisturizer in Champagne ($32) has luminizers in it to enhance your post-beach glow.

7. Curl your lashes and swipe on a volumizing waterproof mascara like L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Waterproof Mascara ($9).

8. Add a little color to cheeks with a gel blush. I like Tarte Cheek Stain in Fearless ($30), a coral-pink shade that’s easy to dab on with fingertips and looks great against a tan.

9. Always have hair ties in your beach bag! Twistbands are great, and I like the summery colors and prints in this 3-pack ($6.50).  They elevate a braid or topknot (great if you’re not shampooing), and won’t snag hair.

That’s all you need to transition from beach to happy hour! What are your best tips for getting glam after spending a day at the beach?
