Beautiful Ways to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The statistics on breast cancer are staggering, and as a woman, pretty frightening. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second most lethal cancer among women (second only to skin cancer). About 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2012, the ACS predicts that more than 225,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women, and more than 63,000 cases of non-invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed. Almost 40,000 women will die from breast cancer this year.

Terrifying. The good news: women are more aware of breast cancer now, and are more likely to seek preventative and necessary healthcare as a result. Research on breast cancer makes huge strides every day…and you can help support the cause in a way that’s actually fun: by shopping. Proceeds from each of the products mentioned here will be contributed to a breast cancer-focused fund. Your purchase can help raise awareness of the importance of annual doctor check-ups, regular mammograms, proper self-exam procedures, and help fund research to find a cure.

All items listed here are limited-edition (available for Oct. 2012 only). The deals are only good while supplies last. Please also know that this is far from an exhaustive list; there are tons of products out there this month that help you support your favorite breast cancer awareness charity or foundation.

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of Estee Lauder’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. The late Evelyn Lauder invented the pink ribbon campaign, which she launched at EL counters across America. To celebrate the program’s anniversary and commemorate Ms. Lauder’s passing (she died last year), this year the company is offering the Evelyn Lauder Dream Lip Collection ($29.50), which includes Pure Color Long-Lasting Lipstick in Candy and Pure Color Gloss in Pink Innocence, tucked inside a pink snakeskin print clutch. Included is a Pink Peony Illuminating Bronzer (embossed with a pink ribbon) and Mini Face Blender Brush with a pink handle. $10 from the sale of this set goes to BCRF. (Image via Bobbi Brown)

eos Breast Cancer Awareness Lip Balm & Body Lotion Set (approx. $7): A superhydrating eos lip balm (my fave) and a travel-size hand lotion all decked out in pink–and berry-scented. 100% of profits from the sale will be donated for further the advancement of research for treatment and a cure for breast cancer.

Stila Courage & Beauty Palette ($16): A signature Stila travel palette that contains 5 eyeshadows, a Convertible Color Lip & Cheek Cream, a mirror and an instructional face chart with inspiration for pretty, feminine looks. A portion of proceeds will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation., all in shades of pale pinks. A portion of proceeds will be donated to BCRF. (Image via Ulta)

More great picks after the break.

Clinique Great Skin, Great Cause ($36): Every year, Clinique runs a breast cancer awareness promo on their bestselling Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion (known as DDM to its rabid fans). $10 from the sale of every bottle will be donated to BCRF. (Image via Clinique)

Aveda Hand Relief ($23): This cushiony, natural lotion comforts dry, chapped hands and provides instant relief to ultra-dry skin exposed to the elements. $4 from the sale of this lotion supports cruelty-free research through BCRF during the month of October.

Laura Gellar Glow Box ($19.50): Tucked inside this box are two hardworking highlighters, a flat-topped brush for application, and a mirror so you can admire your new glowy complexion. Ethereal Rose Baked Radiance Face Powder (the pink marbled powder) color-corrects while giving your face a gorgeous glow, and the Baked Highlighter provides soft-focus highlighting where you want to add a little extra spotlight. Philosophy Shower for the Cure ($20): Philosophy’s signature 3-in-1 bubble bath/body wash/shampoo gets the pink ribbon treatment, with a creamy formula scented with notes of tangerine. 100% of proceeds from the sale of this product is donated to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund.

It Cosmetics Brow Power Pencil ($24): A universally-flattering shade for defining and shaping arches. For each pencil purchased, It will donate one to Look Good, Feel Better. This may seem like a small gesture, but to a woman who’s had to undergo chemo and/or radiation and has lost her hair–and her brows–this is a huge help. (Image via It Cosmetics)

Smashbox “Be Legendary” Lipstick in Inspiration ($19): This vibrant berry-pink shade is all you need for a polished lip. Smashbox will donate $5 from the sale of each tube to BCRF through Oct. 31.

Origins Relief To Go Keychain ($16.50): This potent duo will help combat stress and whisk you off to a more relaxed state. Dab a dollop of Peace of Mind On-the-Spot Relief onto any spots that are causing you stress or worry (like your temples & around the eye area). The aromatherapeutic mixture of basil, eucalyptus, and peppermint will work to ease tension and calm you. Make a Difference Rejuvenating Hand Treatment will drench your cracked, dried-out hands in moisture. Purchasing this product supports BCRF. (Image via Sephora)

Sephora Breast Cancer Awareness Manicure Set ($20): $2 from the sale of this kit will go to BCRF, with a minimum donation of $10,000. (Image via Sephora)

And on October 6, Lilly Pulitzer is hosting a “Shop & Share” event at their retail and signature stores. On that day, 10% of in-store sales will be donated to Breast Cancer Charities of America (BCCA). Visit the Lilly blog for more details & a list of participating stores. Fashionable and charitable–that’s a winning pair. (Image via Lilly Pulitzer)

And finally, LOFT is launching a limited-edition capsule collection, Live in Pink. For each purchase made, 25% will be donated to BCRF. My favorite item: the Live in Pink Chunky Infinity Loop Scarf in Camellia ($54.50). (Image via LOFT)

Happy shopping, ladies–and please keep this important cause in mind throughout the month of October. What items will you be picking up to support the cause? Any favorites I didn’t list here? Let me know in the comments.
