Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner

benefit-they're-real-liner-penYou’ve probably heard the hype about Benefit’s new They’re Real! Push-Up Liner ($24). It’s the first gel liner in pen form, and believe me when I say the hype is totally justified.

The Accu-Flex tip is a soft, angled rubber nib that’s flexible and hollow. When you twist the bottom of the tube, gel liner fills the tip. Here’s why this is genius: you can now apply gel liner without a brush, and with the ease and control of a pen. The angled tip allows you to get right up in your lashline. See how the bottom portion of the tip is curved? That gently nudges your lashes out of the way so you can create a razor-sharp line right along the lashes.

Basically, this gives you the easy application of a gel liner with the convenience and precision of a pen. If you love the look of liquid liner but have trouble applying it, this is definitely for you. Gel liner is much more forgiving, and allows you to create cleaner, straighter lines. But it rivals the look of liquid: this is highly pigmented (it only comes in black currently), extremely long-wearing, and just looks fantastic on.

It is so simple to do with this pen–easier than with any other product I’ve tried, including gel pot/brush combinations. And the fact that it doesn’t move once is on is brilliant for women like me with hooded or drooping eyelids.

Because it’s so long-wearing, it can be difficult to remove. Once you apply, this stuff isn’t going anywhere. Benefit is releasing a new They’re Real! remover made especially for this liner, but it’s not in stores yet. For now, your best bet is a heavy-duty waterproof eye makeup remover.

I do have a few issues with the pen, the biggest being product waste. The first time I used it, the instructions said to twist the bottom a few times to release the product from the tube into the pen tip. I actually had to twist and twist for about 30 seconds, then way too much liner filled the tip and spilled out of it. This also happens sometimes when I click once before applying; it seems there isn’t much product in the barrel to begin with, so wasting even the tiniest dab isn’t cool.

Overall, the liner is awesome, and it has become my go-to product in just a few days. I absolutely love this and will be using it daily.

They’re Real! Push-Up Gel Liner hits stores on June 27. Have you gotten a sneak peek at this liner yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

I love it. I bought it this weekend and have used it everyday. The only thing about it is it takes some getting used to for the cat eye. I am pretty good at doing makeup by my friend who also purchased it (and does not do a cat eye often) had a few issues with the applicator and getting it where she wanted it. I love that it lasts forever but is not forgiving if you make a mistake.
