Budget Beauty: Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Body Butter

tjpumpkinbodybutterWeird fact about me: I rarely use body lotion. I hate the way it feels on my skin. And I really don’t like body butter. I also don’t like smelling like food products. When a friend gave me Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Body Butter ($5) recently, I really didn’t anticipate using it much, if at all.

tjpumpkinbodybutter2I love the smell of pumpkin, and although I don’t like smelling like it, one sniff of this was all it took to get me hooked. It smells creamy, rich, pumpkiny and a little spicy, but it’s very faint. After repeatedly popping open the flip-top lid (which is genius!) to smell it, I finally decided to slather some on.

tjpumpkinbodybutter3The butter is super thick and rich, but it absorbs into my skin almost instantly, with no greasy feeling. It really does dry in less than a minute, but my skin still feels moisturized, which I love. The butter feels luxurious and hydrating, and helps soothe my dry skin, which has started to get itchy because it’s parched from the dropping temperatures. The faint pumpkin scent also fades quickly on my skin, and is not at all cloying, which is nice.

tjpumpkinbodybutter4I love turning everyday moments into rituals, especially in autumn, when the air is crisp and I spend more time cozying up at home. I love smoothing this on at night before snuggling under the covers. It smells like fall and just feels really good to put on.

So this body butter goes against everything I normally feel about body cream, and yet I love it, which says a lot.
