Farmaesthetics Dreaming Oil

dreaming-oilI’ve been having such a hard time sleeping lately. I toss and turn for hours, feeling restless, until I finally give up and grab a book, pick up my iPad, or flick on the TV. I’ve been to bed no earlier than 2 am for the past few weeks, and it’s killing me. I got a package from Farmaesthetics containing their new Dreaming Oil ($27), and a sense of relief flooded over me. Maybe this could curb my insomnia?

Dreaming Oil is an aetheric inhalation oil, which is meant to provide benefits when breathed in (essentially, it’s aromatherapy). The language in the enclosed product information described this as “a lullabye in a bottle for grown-ups.” (Don’t you love that?)

The product information suggests four ways to use it:

  • Add 2 to 3 drops of Dreaming Oil to palms then slowly rub together. Loosely cup palms over nose and breathe deeply for 30 seconds.
  • Add 3 or 4 dropsĀ  to a teacup of steaming water then, holding cup to face, breathe in the vapor for 30-60 seconds.
  • Place 2 drops onto bedside lamp lightbulb. The heat of the bulb will release the vapors.
  • Place 4 or 5 drops onto cotton ball or hankie and place under or near pillow. If you wake in the night, sniff the cloth.

I was pulling out all the stops, so I warmed the oil in my palms and breathed it in, and then I dabbed a few drops onto a handkerchief that I tucked under my pillow. The oil is a blend of lavender and clary sage, and it does feel therapeutic to breathe it the pleasant scent.

So…did it work?

As a test, I alternated for a few nights between using it before bedtime and forgoing it. Guess what? The nights I used it, I fell asleep within about 30 minutes (which is really fast for me). The nights I didn’t use it extended into the wee hours, and I was staring down the clock at 3 am. It could be all mental, but I don’t care. It works for me and it’s helping me get to sleep. At this point, that’s all that matters.

As with all Farmaesthetics products, this is 100% natural. It is also made solely from certified organic ingredients.

Farmaesthetics says this is the first in an upcoming series, and I hope to see more blends from them in the future.
