Latest Obsessions: Drybar & Blushington

I wish I lived in L.A. about a hundred times a day (I’m completely infatuated with California, even though I’ve never been). And now, two beauty-centric West Coast spots (one established, one brand-spanking-new) are making me ache for a visit to the West Coast. Drybar and Blushington are enough to make me book a plane ticket ASAP.

The premise of Drybar is so simple: a salon that offers only blowouts. You book an appointment, walk in, get shampooed, and get a blowout. They offer menus that resemble cocktail lists with a set of looks (with cocktail-inspired names) to choose from. You tell your stylist what you want, and you walk out with beautiful hair.

Right now, Drybar has locations in California (West Hollywood, Brentwood, San Francisco, San Diego, Studio City, Newport Beach, and Pacific Palisades); NYC (Flatiron district); Scottsdale, AZ; and Dallas, TX.

Alli Webb, if you by any chance happen to read this, please consider opening a Philadelphia location. I swear to you, I’d be there at least once a week, and I’d bring all my friends.

And next door to the West Hollywood Drybar location, a full-service makeup and beauty lounge with the same concept opened just last week. Blushington offers full makeup applications for only $35. $35!!! It’s unheard of. Just need your eyes done? That’s only $25.

Just like Drybar, they offer a lookbook of 6 lovely styles to choose from (above). Once you’ve decided on your look, a professional makeup artist will recreate it and you’ll be gorgeous and glowing.

So, say you need a little more than just a makeup application. Blushington also does brow shaping, brow and lash tinting, airbrush makeup, eyelash extensions, and false eyelash application.

This block of West Hollywood is now a beauty mecca; pop into Drybar for a blowout, then hop over to Blushington to get your makeup done. All that for just $70.

Drybar and Blushington are is so fantastic because they offer affordable luxury. Any girl could use a little pampering now and then, but with the economy in the toilet, it’s tough to splurge on yourself. Drybar and Blushington make it easy to indulge stress-free and affordably. They make it possible to prep for an event or boost your mood without feeling guilty about breaking your budget. And you won’t be getting dolled up in some hole-in-the-wall; both salons are outfitted with trendy, sleek furniture, mirrored accents, and fun pops of color, so you’re surrounded by luxury while you get pampered. You can’t afford not to go!

Have you tried Drybar or Blushington? What do you think?
