Over the past year, I’ve been getting highlights (baby blonde) and lowlights (coppery auburn) woven into my hair to take it down a few shades. To complete the look, I started getting my brows tinted every month when I had them shaped. But last weekend, I went back to my blonde ways and really lightened up…meaning I can’t get my brows tinted anymore unless I want to risk looking like an angry cartoon character. I still wanted that clean, defined brow, but didn’t want to overload it with color. A Sephora sales rep recommended Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color in Light ($21) because of its natural-looking taupe shade.
Sure enough, I don’t miss tinting at all with this. It fills in the less-than-perfect gaps in my arches without drenching them in too-dark color. The shade is really light, but if you’re a blonde or have fair skin, it should work well on you. I found it to be just right for my coloring. You can layer the color to make it deeper if you need it, or just do a few strokes to even out your brows and give them a nice shape.
I was hesitant to try it because it just screamed “drawn-on brows” (scary!) to me, but the effect was actually really subtle and soft. It’s got a great brush tip, not a felt tip, which is key for applying the color in a diffused way instead of a harsh line. Another bonus: it’s water-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about sweating it off at the gym or having it smudge throughout the day. This baby stays put!
And I promise you, your brows will not look drawn-on. I was SO reluctant to try this for that reason, but the effect is soft and light; even pencils produce harsher results. If you’re looking to define your brows, this does it beautifully. And if you have dark hair or skin, they also make a Medium shade, which would be great for brunettes and ladies with darker skin tones.
