Last week, I had one of those days where nothing went right. It started out with dropping my bronzer compact and my bronzer shattering in a million pieces. I needed a new one (for me, going a day without bronzer is not an option), but I knew there were going to be a ton of new bronzers coming out soon with the late spring/early summer collections, so I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on one. I usually go for shimmer, but I wanted a matte one this time around so I could use it for contouring, too.
I was recently given NYX’s Waiting For Tonight palette (maybe I’ll get around to reviewing that one day), which has a great bronzer in it. I love the quality and the shade, but it’s shimmery. Because that one is so great, I decided to go with NYX Matte Bronzer in the shade MBB01/Light. It’s also available in Medium and Deep.
Because this bronzer has a reddish/terracotta-like undertone to it, I wasn’t sure it would look natural. Because I’m so fair with cool undertones, I usually need a bronzer that has more of a tan base (like NARS Laguna). I gave it a shot anyway because it was one of the only matte bronzers in the store. Plus, NYX’s quality is typically superior to other higher-priced drugstore brands.
This bronzer looks great. It’s highly pigmented, so I recommend going a shade lighter than you think you need, and tapping off excess powder from your brush before applying. (Don’t take the brush from compact to face—it can end up looking harsh and fake.) It gives a natural-looking, sun-kissed glow that’s perfect for this time of year, when we’re all sun-deprived and need a light glow.
I bought this at Ulta. It was priced at $8.99, but I got it for $4.99 because they were having a sale. For $5, I couldn’t be happier with this bronzer.
