Pevonia, a high-end, natural skincare brand offered in luxe spas, offered to send me their new line, Phyto-Elite™ Stem Cells, to spread awareness about the launch of the line and their new #PevoniaLife program. Plant stem cells are the latest buzz in skincare, and I’ve been wanting to try them, so this was a great opportunity.
I was curious about the role plant stem cells play in skincare, so I did a good amount of research. The actual plant stem cells are not contained in products; it’s the extracts of the cells that work their magic on skin. (Live cells cannot be maintained in beauty products due to preservation issues.) Plant stem cells are unique because they can develop into different types of cells; they kind of morph from their original incarnation. So the thought behind plant stem cell-infused skincare is that by applying these products to your face, you can possibly trigger your skin to create more of its own stem cells, resulting in more youthful-looking skin.
In these products, Pevonia uses two botanical stem cell sources: argan tree (for support and elasticity) and European comfrey root (for accelerating cell renewal). Both are proven to improve the appearance of aging skin. These products contain a concentration of stem cells that is five to ten times higher than other products currently on the market.
Since I’ve been using the products for about two weeks, this is a “first impressions” post–my initial reactions to the products based on how they’ve performed so far. I’ll do a follow-up post in a few weeks to update you again.
Packaging: The packaging on these items is totally gorgeous. Metallic gold and black, well-made, and completely chic. These are definitely not meant to be hidden in your medicine cabinet! They actually remind me of the packaging of Chanel’s skincare products. The metallic gold really elevates these products and the experience of using them.
Multi-Active Foaming Cleanser: The face cleanser is the thinnest formula of the bunch, but it’s creamy and feels substantial. It does foam once you massage it onto your skin. I’ve been using it with my Clarisonic (I’m not sure that this combination is right for everyone, but it’s working for me), and my skin feels refreshed after. If I don’t apply the serum immediately, it does start to feel a bit tight as it dries, which I attribute to the cleanser (since that doesn’t usually happen). I use this cleanser morning and night.
Intensive Serum: The serum is also on the thicker side, almost like a gel. Because it’s so thick, it goes a long way. The directions suggest you need five pumps, but two to three are fine for me. I’d recommend trying five to start, seeing how your skin reacts and how much you need to cover your face and neck, and adjusting as you go forward. The serum is the second step in the skincare routine, followed by the cleanser. Apply this only at night.
Intensive Cream: The texture of the cream is my favorite of this group; it’s thick, rich, and silky. It does feel a little heavy on the skin at first, but it dries quickly. It’s faintly scented with a light floral fragrance that wears off few minutes after the cream dries. You can use this cream morning and night; I’ve found it’s a bit heavy for day for me, so I’ve reserved it for night. I have used it during the day, though, and it makes a big difference in radiance — if you can use it during the day, I definitely recommend it.

Immediately after the first application of these three products, my skin felt smoother and softer. After using the products for just two weeks, my skin already looks better. About six days after using the line morning and night, I noticed when I looked in the mirror that my skin looked really radiant. It was glowy. I have not yet noticed any difference in the fine lines that are cropping up on the sides of my mouth, but it’s too soon to tell; I’ll have to use it longer to see any change there. Also, this helps my makeup go on smoother and stay on longer.
These products feel great on my skin, and after a short time, have made it appear softer and more radiant. I have completely transitioned to using these products as my skincare regimen, and am so pleased with the results. However, they are somewhat thick and rich, and incredibly hydrating. Therefore, they are best for dry or aging skin.
And Pevonia wants you to try their products, so they’ve graciously offered to host a giveaway! They’re giving out sample skincare sets to 5 readers. Entering is simple: sign up for the Pevonia Life Advocate Experience, then come back here and comment on what you’re looking for in a skincare line. You must do both in order to be entered for the giveaway. Good luck!
