Too Faced Candlelight Glow

too-faced-candlelight-glowHave you ever gone through phases where you just get tired of certain products? I looked in my makeup bag earlier this week and was so blah about a few items in it–particularly, my highlighter. I’ve always used a cream or liquid highlighter. But for some reason, I got tired of dabbing that on and blending it in. I wanted something easier and faster, but with just as much–or more–impact.

And so my quest for a powder highlighter began. I’ve always looked down on powder highlighters; I always said they didn’t give a dewy glow like cream formulas, therefore defeating the whole purpose of highlighters. I think I was a little too close-minded. For me, Too Faced Candlelight Glow ($30) was a great option because the split pan lets you sweep on a champagne shimmer, a pearly pink shimmer, or blend the two for a custom glow.

It was between this and NARS Albatross. They are two very similar powder illuminators (except Albatross is just a sheer champagne/white shade). I ultimately decided on this because Albatross is extremely shimmery, and can go on really strong if you’re not careful. It’s easy to overdo it with Albatross. I felt like I had more control over this, and that was the deciding factor.

TF-candlelight-glow-swatchAs you can see in the photo above, this is shimmery but not overkill. I like that it’s layerable, and easily blendable. I’ve been using a heavier hand for nighttime looks, layering it on more than I do during the day. You can wear either shade solo, but I’ve been swirling my brush over both to give a pearly glow (that would work on many different skin tones).

Another defining characteristic of this product: it photographs beautifully. Your skin looks lit-up and glowy, not shiny. If you’re searching for a new highlighter, give this powder version a whirl.candlelight-glow

Looks like a great highlighter. Think I’ll try it out next time I’m at Sephora. I usually use Benefit High Beam, and this looks like it’s a similar shade.
