Urban Decay’s newest product, Perversion Mascara ($22), bears the tagline, “Bigger. Blacker. Badder.”
I’m all over it.
This is the best mascara I’ve found since I discovered this about 5 years ago. I really didn’t think it would live up to the hype (because lately, nothing seems to), so I was shocked when it gave me dramatic, lush lashes in just a few strokes.
It came with a limited-edition deluxe sample of Subversion, UD’s new lash primer. I wasn’t expecting much because lash primers are all the same: try one & you’ve tried them all. This one is a little different, and I think it’s because of the brush. Most primers have skinny brushes, which on me, cause product to clump, and makes my lashes stick together. But this one has a fluffy brush, and it distributes the product evenly throughout my lashes, which makes the effect of the mascara so much more intense.
Which leads me to all you need to know about this post: the mascara brush. This is the reason why I love this mascara so much. If you like skinny wands with bristles spaced far apart, you won’t like this mascara. If you like those plastic wands with the spikes instead of bristles, this is definitely not for you. But if you like a classic, full brush, this is where it’s at.
Although it’s a fat wand, it really gets those tiny, hard-to-reach lashes and coats them in mascara, making eyes look huge. The formula is inky black, and really makes eyes look noticeably more dramatic. I layered on three coats of this and it didn’t get clumpy–it looked amazing. The overall effect of the black shade, even with just one coat, is striking. The mascara is long-lasting, yet came off easily with makeup remover. I did notice some flaking toward the end of the day, but it was nothing crazy. It holds a curl beautifully and doesn’t weigh down my lashes.
So, if volume is what you’re going for in a mascara, this is the best thing to hit the market in years.
